Yoga found Emily in 2008 through commitment to a daily personal practice of presence. She uses yoga as a tool to unite with spirit, to unveil the truth of her inner world and to connect to this human experience. Yoga makes her more active in pursuing peace, even when it requires moving through unpleasant realities and having hard conversations to create the peace she seeks. Emily specializes in slow flow and yin, active breath and active rest. She teaches yoga as a way to increase healthy self-awareness, to find acceptance and to ultimately transform and unite the mental and physical with her spiritual self.
When she’s not on her mat you can find her travelling through mountains near and far, volunteering in communities across the east coast, enjoying live music or reading a book. Travel and music are big things that light Emily up. This week she’s incredibly lit up by the power of modern-day hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar and his astonishing new tracks. While her music in class is soothing and connective to breath, she’s been rocking his new drops on repeat while reflecting on the power of language, the power of art and the importance of honesty as we speak to one another. She’s eagerly anticipating the real-world implications of these recent tracks as this part of music history is being written.
