As we near the daffodils springing up, it's the perfect time to introduce this popular and simple Ayurvedic herbal blend affectionately known as "CCF Tea". This tea is easy to make, and you might even have the ingredients in your spice cabinet.

Ingredients

1/2 tsp Coriander Seeds (V+PK-)

1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds (P+VK-)

1/2 tsp Fennel Seeds (VPK-)

How to Prepare

In Ayurveda, teas are one of the traditional methods of delivering the medicinal effects of herbs and spices to the body's tissues. Ayurvedic teas consist of a single herb or blend of herbs steeped in hot water.

o Boil 1 1/2 cups of water

o Add the whole cumin, coriander, and fennel seeds.

o Let steep for 5 minutes, or until it cools to a comfortable drinking temperature.

o Strain and serve, discarding the spices.

OR

Place herbs in a tea ball or tea filter in your favorite mug. Pour boiling water over the tea and let sit for 5 minutes. Drink with meals or sip throughout the day.

Benefits*

  • Is balancing to Vata, Pitta, and Kapha (VPK-) (dosha)
  • Is hot, dry, clear, and light (guna)
  • Bitter and pungent in taste (rasa)
  • Detoxifies and reduces Ama (toxic build-up on undigested food)
  • Purifies blood
  • Helps with boosting digestive fire
  • Reduces gas
  • Acts as diuretic and supports weight loss*
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Warms circulation and acts as a decongestant
  • Improves clarity of mind

Generally, this tea is suitable for long-term use, for all three doshas, and all ages. Dry Vata people should limit the intake of diuretics. As CCF tea is a diuretic, do not drink before bed. Clients that integrate this tea regularly into their self-care protocol often report that they have more energy and overall clarity.
